Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white icing or royal icing for laces

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  • Cream butter and both sugars until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed until combined.
  • Roll 2 tablespoons of dough into a ball, then flatten and pinch ends into an oval shape.
  • Place ovals on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set.
  • Let cookies cool completely on the pan before decorating.
  • Pipe a long white line and several short cross-lines on each cookie to create laces.
  • Allow the icing to dry completely before serving.
